Extension of Qualifying Deadline for County Mayor Primary Candidates


Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated § 2-5-101(h), the qualifying deadline for Republican and Democratic primary candidates for the office of County Mayor has been extended due to the withdrawal of an incumbent candidate on the final day of qualifying.

Accordingly, qualifying for Republican and Democratic primary candidates for County Mayor shall remain open until 12:00 noon (CST) on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

This extension applies only to primary candidates for the office of County Mayor, as authorized under T.C.A. § 2-5-101(h)(3)(A). No other offices are affected by this extension.

Independent candidates are not eligible to qualify during this extended period.

The deadline for withdrawal by any additional qualifying primary candidates under this extension shall be 12:00 noon (CST) on Monday, March 9, 2026.

This notice serves as official public notice of the revised qualifying and withdrawal deadlines.

All other qualifying deadlines, requirements, and procedures not expressly stated herein remain unchanged.

COUNTY PRIMARY ELECTION

May 5th, 2026

Pursuant to T.C.A. § 2-12-111(a), the Hickman County Election Commission announces that a State Republican and Democrat Primary and a County General Election will be held in all voting precincts on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, for the purposes of nominating individuals for the August County General Election.

NOMINATING PETITIONS: Petitions may be picked up in the Election Commission Office, starting December 22, 2025, located at 35 Smith Avenue, Hohenwald, during regular business hours through the qualifying deadline.

QUALIFYING DEADLINE: February 19, 2026 (12:00 / NOON)Candidates must meet certain requirements to have their name placed on the ballot.vQualifying petitions for INDEPENDENT candidates must also be filed by this deadline.

WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE: February 26, 2026 (12:00 / NOON) Withdrawal statements must be signed in writing by the candidate.

NOTICE TO DISABLED OR ELDERLY VOTERS

Pursuant to T.C.A. §2-3-109, voters are advised that the Hickman County Election Commission Office located at 114 N Central Ave, Centerville TN is a polling place that is accessible to physically disabled or elderly voters.

Physically disabled or elderly voters who believe that their polling place is inaccessible are encouraged to vote early or may vote at the Election Commission Office on Election Day.  Voters who desire to vote at the Election Commission Office on Election Day must complete an affidavit at the Commission Office stating that their designated polling place is inaccessible.  This affidavit must be received by the Election Commission no later than Friday, April 24th, 2026.

Physically disabled or elderly voters have the right to vote by absentee ballot or during the early voting period pursuant to the provisions of T.C.A. §2-6-201. If information is needed for absentee or early voting procedures, please contact the Hickman County Election Commission Office at 931-729-4560 as soon as possible.

State law requires voters to have photo identification when they present themselves to vote. This includes Early Voting at the Election Office and the East Volunteer Fire Department voting on Election Day at your assigned polling place.

QUALIFYING DEADLINE STATE PRIMARY: March 10, 2026 (12:00 / NOON) Candidates must meet certain requirements to have their name placed on the ballot.  Qualifying petitions for Independent candidates for offices to be filled in on the November General Election ballot must also be filed by this deadline.  Any duplicate petitions, which may be required, MUST be filed by this deadline, as are the originals.

WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE STATE PRIMARY: March 17, 2026 (12:00 / NOON) Withdrawal statements must be signed in writing by the candidate.
